Ages 13–15 β€” Casual Riding

For younger teens, the Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket ($499) is the safe, affordable choice. At 17 mph with dual suspension and knobby tires, it delivers genuine off-road fun without the speed and power of an adult bike.

Ages 16–17 β€” Ready to Step Up

Experienced older teens (16+) can handle a supervised Sur-Ron Light Bee X with power restriction enabled. At 110 lbs with multiple power modes, you can start it in a low-power mode and increase as skill grows. This is the bike that grows with the rider into adulthood.

What to Look For in a Teen Bike

  • Adjustable speed/power modes β€” start low, increase with skill
  • Appropriate weight β€” the rider should be able to handle the bike when it falls
  • Quality brakes and suspension β€” critical as speeds increase
  • Upgrade path β€” a bike that grows with the rider saves money

Safety Gear Is Non-Negotiable

Every teen rider needs a DOT-rated helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, and ideally a chest protector and knee guards. See our protective gear range.
